Wasco High Athletic Hall of Fame to induct 8 in October

The Wasco Union High School Athletic Hall of Fame will induct eight accomplished athletes, coaches and teams on Saturday, Oct. 26.

The 2024 Hall of Fame class is comprised of the 2012 Tiger Football Team, Sherril Boyett (basketball, football, track), Elizabeth Holtermann (basketball, golf, volleyball), Mike Johnson (football, wrestling), Sean Medley (football, track and field, wrestling), Coach Rusvel Prado (football), Veronica Sanchez Gregory (cross country, track and field) and Kayla Wilburn (basketball and volleyball).

The induction class includes six South Sequoia League Championships, five all-area players, five state championship appearances, five Valley Championships, four college athletes, three who still hold WUHS school records, two All Americans and one Olympic athlete.

Wasco Union High School District Superintendent and HOF President Kevin Tallon said, "We are excited about the Wasco High Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2024. We think the class represents outstanding individuals and a team whose undefeated football season and section championship give them a special place in Wasco High football history. We are looking forward to honoring them in October."

Since its inception, the Hall of Fame has welcomed 81 athletes/teams/contributors/coaches beginning with the 2009 induction class. After consecutive ceremonies in 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012, the HOF moved to biannual classes from 2012-2018. Other than the initial induction of 21, the HOF typically inducts a total of eight except for the first post-covid class in 2022.

Board member Sharon Sharp said, "I love being on the Athletic HOF board. Any time that we can celebrate and highlight talent and accomplishment is special. As an alumnus of Wasco High and an employee it's just really meaningful."

She has been on the board for five years. "Whenever we induct a class, I'm so in awe of the talent, and every class you think it doesn't get better, then the next class comes along, and they are equally accomplished. We started accepting online applications since the last induction class, and that has been phenomenal in terms of the volume of nominees."

Of the celebration, she said, "The ceremony will be Saturday, October 26, and it will be a wonderful evening in the cafeteria. We'll have a dinner and induction ceremony. It's going to be a fun night. There are some phenomenal stories in this Hall of Fame class that I'm excited to see. Danny Eusebio does a fantastic job on the videos we show at the ceremony."
