Serving the community since 1922

Bert's Barber Studio makes a move downtown

In Shafter, there is a new barber in town, and he offers more than just your everyday haircut.

Bert's Barber Studio and Salon has a variety of services, making it a one-stop shop for grooming needs.

Albert Camargo and his wife, Evelyn, opened the shop, at 321 Central Ave., in December. Camargo had a barber shop around the corner, which he had opened in 2021. When the new property became available, he decided to take the chance and upgraded to a bigger space. "The space is big enough that we could offer more services than just cuts," Evelyn said .

The shop now has two barbers and two stylists, and Evelyn offers manicures, pedicures and nails. They also offer waxing and facials.

According to Camargo, they stay up on the current trends by doing their research and practical experience. "Fades are still the top draw right now," said Camargo, who offers a wide variety of fades.

Camargo is a Shafter native. "I love the small town feel of Shafter. The community is great and we just love the people here."

Camargo said that he really didn't enjoy cutting hair when he first started. "I was young and just started doing the hair for my family and friends. I realized that I was pretty good at it, and really started liking it a lot, so I decided to pursue it as a career.

The shop welcomes appointments and walk-ins. "At first, I was just doing appointments, because I was the only barber and I hated having to turn people away," said Camargo. "But we have another barber now working so we can take appointments, as well as walk-ins."

Bert's Barber Studio and Salon, 321 Central Ave., is open Tuesday-Friday 8 a.m. -6 p.m., Saturday 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Appointments are available but not required, 661- 865-9217.
